Contraception and Family Planning

Contraception is used to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. All contraception is provided free of charge to you.

If you are thinking of starting on a form of contraception, we can provide you with the information needed to make an informed decision about the type you wish to use.

There are many different types of contraception:

  • Combined pills, patches & rings
  • Progesterone only pills
  • Contraceptive injection
  • Contraceptive implant
  • Hormone Coils (IUS)
  • Copper Coil (IUD)
  • Condoms
  • Diaphragms & Caps
  • Sterilisation
  • Natural Methods

Sometimes, a contraceptive method may not be safe for you to use. The Nurse or GP will complete a risk assessment to ensure your chosen method is safe for you. They will also discuss the benefits, risks, potential side effects and potential bleeding patterns with you.

You can book an appointment with our Family Planning Nurse, Pharmacy Team or a GP/Nurse Practitioner to discuss your contraceptive options. This can be booked by completing an online Accurx Patient Triage request, or phoning the Surgery.

There is also a Sexual Health Clinic on Level 4, Aldershot Centre for Health, they can discuss your contraceptive options with you and provided sexual health screening.

We offer specific contraception clinics for coil and implant fittings with our Family Planning Nurse. These tend to run on Wednesdays and Fridays, but we can be flexible if you are unable to attend these days.

Please find some more information below on the types of contraception that are available to you:
