Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) has been introduced to eliminate the need for paper prescriptions. The service improves efficiency and convenience for both patients and the surgery, while enabling prescriptions to be securely tracked throughout the prescribing and dispensing process.
To use EPS, patients are required to nominate a pharmacy of their choice. This can be done either at the pharmacy or at the GP surgery. Only one pharmacy can be nominated at any one time; however, patients may change their nominated pharmacy at any point.
Once a pharmacy has been nominated, prescriptions will be sent electronically directly to that pharmacy. This removes the need for patients to attend the surgery to collect a paper prescription.
Patients can also request repeat prescriptions online via the NHS app. (Link opens in a new browser tab).
Out-of-stock medication
In certain circumstances, for example if a medication is temporarily out of stock at the nominated pharmacy, patients may wish to obtain their medication from an alternative pharmacy without changing their nomination. Please contact your usual pharmacy or the GP surgery for advice on how to proceed.
